to put it simply, the reason is because nobody who frequents this board is able to pull it off.

even the ones most enthusiastic about the style can't seem to put together an ivy/preppy fit that doesn't look like a costume. as a result, the people looking in on the scene just see a bunch of tryhards, and so that's the reputation it has earned for itself here

on a side note, you're probably one of those tryhards, since anyone who is legitimately pulling off prep look wouldnt be insecure enough to concern themselves with what makes this board angry.
