Who knows the best method of breaking in boots? Just bought my first pair and I like them and all, but they rub against my ankles quite a bit and in some places the leather is quite stiff and won't give. I've read a bunch of different suggestions ranging from soaking them in water (and then wearing) to putting rubbing alcohol on the really stiff places. I'm worried those would affect the leather quality. Thanks for your help.

Oh, and what is best for leather treatment? I don't want anything that will make them darker either.
