why would it fit weird? it only does when you dont sew straight which maybe is a little tricky at first seeing as you'll want a taper
-turn inside out
-look how the existing stiching is
-measure how tight you want the leg opening/use needles to fix it and try it on
-sew over needles, try to get a smoot line
-try on, if bad sew over it again or remove stitches, if good cut fabric off and sew over edge to stop fraying

my mum taught me this and ive done several pants since. i always shortened them as well so that would take care of the edge of the opening and seam
