Two things.
1. Millenials are conditioned to buy cheap, fake garbage they can toss away 3 months later. The simple thought of buying something that is lasting forever and cost more because of this seems stupid to them.
2. Changing times. 20 Years ago you could wear good stuff (in germany at least) and nobody cared. Today you got to fear that someone will take it as a great opportunity to rob you. Be it one of the millenial "give me everything" commies or some of the "new citizens" we have, nobody feels save enough to wear expensive stuff. And why should you buy stuff you cant wear? My mother often told me that in the past on funerals and so on you could see the rich wearing fur and diamonds. And when she finally was well off enough to buy a cheap real fur coat nobody wore them anymore. Imagine how pissed she was about saving for years to be able to afford one and be part of "the crowd" only to see how not dressing well became the norm.
