My curly-haired brethren, here is what you do: don't use shampoo, don't brush when dry. Instead, use only conditioner, and use either your fingers or a coarse / wide-tooth comb after conditioning. When rinsing, leave in a bit of conditioner - you should be able to feel with your fingers in your hair how much is left, when it is all gone your hair will be significantly higher friction. Let it air dry, or let it dry compressed into tight curls under a beanie, t-shirt, or something else (this drying technique is unfortunately called "plopping").

The goal is to allow your hairs to dry together in bundles, which, when dry will produce distinct curls like you can see in my pic related.

There's more you can do, like curling gel / other product, adding oil, switching to a particular type of conditioner, adding a non-shampoo / detergent cleanser to the routine, etc. But removing shampoo, leaving in a bit of conditioner, and letting it dry without rubbing it in a way that will make it frizzy are the most important things to do.
