I've been wondering this too. I'm new to giving a shit about my shoes, but the design logic to sneakers makes no sense to me. Every other type of shoe, as well as old-style canvas or leather sneakers, is pretty reasonable-looking, but modern sneakers are just off their meds. I don't get it.
