I'm flattered, but don't be honored or anything, it's something I feel a bit strongly about. I think that at the end of the day, a lot of (often secretly) traditionalist types simply don't like the idea of people having their pleasure and not suffering in return. There's this notion floating around that we have to pay the piper at some point if we want to maintain a vice. Suffering is the price of indulgence, it always has been. It's this very dichotomy that gives way to the concept of sin and thus shuffles the deck in favor of the patriarchy and upper management.

But wait! Here comes science with a way to smoke and not die! Studies are coming back one after another with good news about how minuscule the risk of these things is. Of course, this really throws a wrench in that puritan/fundie/totalist mindset (E-cigs are now illegal in dubai & singapore, among other nations) because think about it: it's emblematic of the present clash between traditionalists and those who would write a new future. I really believe that this simple innovation will shape culture in ways we can't imagine. It's a perfect drug delivery system, really!
So there's that, and besides - it's not very easy to tax effectively.
