Because it's a luxury watch and not a mall shitter. Why would you buy a Rolex when you can buy the same shit from a thousand different brands for 1/10th of the price? Breitling has a diver dating back to the 50s. Why not buy a Superocean?

Face it, you buy because it's a statement. You can afford a fucking IWC. You don't care that it cost 10x what a cheap Flieger costs. You pay to see IWC written on your wrist.

Having said that, the Mark series is head and shoulders above shitter Fliegers in terms of build quality, fit, finish, watchmaking. For most of the models they bought ebauche and made it themselves, only later they went with the pre made shit. Also, most Fliegers are boring because they just look the same. IWC did some interesting changes at least.
