What are some nice looking, sport/casual shitters (just until i make it and buy a real watch)?

It's hot as fuck outside and wearing jeans is uncomfortable. I'm an ugly and nerdy looking male so I don't want to buy shorts that are too showy.

1. What type of shorts should I buy if I buy cotton t-shirts? Just regular cargo shorts? Should they end just above the knee?

2. How should I wear my socks while wearing shorts? Do I need that type that barely touches the ankle or are regular ankle length ones ok?

Any tips for getting good finds at thrift stores? Perhaps some brands to keep an eye out for? I'd really like to have a clean and reserved, yet cute male's wardrobe to relax my appearance and mindset. I recently cleaned out my entire wardrobe, and I can't wear the great majority of my old clothing since I lost so much weight. I used to go thrifting some time back, but I've often had a tough time finding interesting clothes. I had much better luck with things like physical media and model kits. It's even harder now that I've lost weight, putting me into size categories with more competition.

>tfw my comfy London Fog coats are either far too big, or missing.

Tempted to refurbish one into a messenger's bag or backpack.

Looking for advice on sizing a military field jacket.
I have taken my own measurements, and clock in around roughly 37 inches for my chest and 15 inches for my neck. The website's sizing chart for the jacket in question states that a medium would be somewhere between 38-41 inches for the chest and 15-16 for the neck. While a large would be somewhere between 42-45 inches for the chest and 16-17 inches for the neck.
First time purchasing a military style jacket and wondering which would be better since I am clueless on how they should be worn, weather that be looser or more fitted. Thank you.
