I actually never tried using pins, and I don't think a lot of people use them in general but I just tried it out and it works pretty well. Basically just prevents the folded part from moving outwards and keep the cuff tight. Pic related for how I did it, pin goes through the two folds. Not the clearest pic but you should get the idea.
