Conglomerates realized the general public (and richfags in that general public) can be sold on ancient goblin wizardry magic that is supposed to be SWISS MADE. Even if they somehow found out that their watches are for the most part made in china, they would still gladly pay for the brand name. This is sadly not exclusive to mall shitters, starting at fashion watches, ending at Longines, Hamilton and TAG, but "serious" brands as well.
Companies paying ridiculous money for overhead, marketing and sponsorship will of course not do it out of their own benevolence.
