NEVAH!!!!

No, I'll never modify the 105-012...it's as original as it can be while still running (i.e. all the outer aesthetics are original, and only a few components of the movement have been replaced). Modifying the tritium would severely impact the value of the watch (i.e. around -5k in value at least once you do a re-dial, around -10k considering the condition of my dial), so forget that idea.

For me, the rule is that with vintage watches, they stay original. For anything past super-luminova, they can be serviced by the company with replacement parts for anything requiring it (including dials, hands, etc.).

That's the challenge of owning vintage. Even the Grail I have is all original...fucking pain in the ass to get one in that condition where the hands and lume plots haven't been 'moistened' beyond shit-brown colour...

Not only that, but the function of a gold watch is to show others that they are inferior. A gold watch on a rubber strap (or an 'Oysterflex') is bullshit. It's a cope. It's an inappropriate combination of aesthetics, and it looks cheap. If the owner wants to wear it on leather or rubber, fine, but it shouldn't appear as if the owner simply couldn't afford the correct full bracelet combination and opted for the cheaper equivalent.

>I'm a snob sometimes, I know. But c'mon, don't you agree?

Honestly, I ain't clicken that shit....
What is a 'tiermaker list'?

>>17856496
I like it, but beware that 2-tone is not desirable, and any attempt by sellers to inflate the desirability (i.e. 'violet' vs. 'blue' dial) should always be suspect. Anon, I'll be real with you: a datejust is a poor-man's day-date, so safe up and wait until you find something that is perfect for you. Granted, if you love this watch, go for it, but you don't need us to validate your purchase.

For fuck's sake...in the book, he wears a Rolex, but Rolex didn't want their name to be referenced with a psychopath for the movie, so in the movie he wears a two-tone Seiko. Two-tone is generally okay, depending on the culture you are in.

My 376.0822; that's the nickname, given by the late Chuck Maddox. It was my grail too. Love this watch, and will wear it until I die.

Do you have a grail Anon? If so, you should post it, and all I can do is wish you the best in your quest to achieve it. I hope you find happiness.

The one in focus is my Mark 40; it uses a Valjoux 7751. The one behind it is my Holy Grail, which uses a Lemania 5100

>pic related is a shot with the watches reversed.

Yes, but admittedly the opportunity to get drunk is now VERY rare, so I enjoy it when I can. Congrats on the marathon; those things are tough, and now beyond my capability to do so with any self-respect. Did you and your wife do well? Or at least, did you do well according to your own criteria? Hope so. You deserve to sit by the pool after that and stock up on calories!

Cool Moser; I've never been attracted to their aesthetic, but I can't fault their build quality and attention to detail. Fat Federico is right about them...a steal in today's market.

I was out today too...mainly garden work, weeding, and random odds and ends before settling down to relax after a crazy 2 weeks. It's nice to breathe again.

Post more pics of the Moser...one doesn't often see them.

To be honest, it was the finish; it's very....generic? It's tough to describe. Think of it this way; I'd seen it in pics for decades, and then finally in-hand the modern version was underwhelming to say the least. The size was fine...but I remember specifically the square sapphire crystal being very underwhelming in terms of clarity. Ultimately, the watch felt unrefined, and for the price tag, it wasn't worth it at all. But that's my personal experience...I'd say try it on before going for it.

>>17603001
Well, glad you got to enjoy another sojourn safely. At least you came back safely...shit is going down in Sudan and Congo. Acktually, shit is ALWAYS going down in congo....

If you're still here, I've been meaning to ask you: are you finished in terms of collecting? It's always nice to see your pieces here. I've been finished for months, so now occasionally I look but everything is a comforting variation-on-a-theme...nothing 'new' that I'd want to own. Have you reached the same zenith? (excuse the pun, as Zenith is fucking awesome if you know what to look for).

>>17603012
One of the mainplates of my Lemania 5100 is fully plastic, and no one gives a shit because it's a fucking lemania 5100. Plastic can be useful Anon, don't denegrate it. It's self-lubricating in the 1861, and that's why they use it. It's SUPERIOR.

>pic fucking related, though I won't share pics of the movement because apparently movement serial numbers can be copied by fake fakers who fake watches. Like Invcitca.
