Actually the Grand Seiko developed a perfect mechanism.
>Mechanical spring tension
>Electronic quartz time keeping beats any mechanical
>Electronically controlled STEPLESS escapement, the seconds arm glides continuously without making any steps at all beating the fanciest 7-step swiss escapements on smoothness
>Mechanical self winding - no batteries
>Higher efficiency than any mechanical escapement allows for two weeks power reserve

So yeah, the perfect watch actually exists. Precision of Quartz + smoothness of mechanics and the sense of prestige that comes from a unique and technically perfect Japanese movement.

All benefits, no downsides. The aesthetic fit and finish of Grand Seiko also matches or beat the Swiss at 1/10th their price.

Oh, and they also don't tick.
