I imagine that lots of guys could get away with some more subtle elements, and maybe just tucking in one of the shorter variations of Germanic tunics into the thorsberg trousers, with either low toggle boots or those shoes or boots which resemble modern desert boots. Germanic tribesmen didn't use cotton for their clothing, however, so just stick with linen and wool. Back then, cotton was mainly to be found in only Egypt, and it was still pretty expensive there, I think, and also in India, probably some other parts of Asia, and in the New World.
