The reason I bring it up was because I had no idea that other companies were experimenting with new oscillators...but they are. GP has one, Zenith has theirs, both silicon printed I think, while AP has one that they claim works without lubrication but is of relatively traditional materials.

Given the history, one would think that all of them are trying to develop something that will be as universally adopted as the lever escapement, but the way I see it, the new technology that is continuously being developed around silicon printing means that there are many possibilities as to how to regulate an escape wheel.

To make matters more complicated, couldn't it be possible that eventually you'd reach a kind of standard of rate that would be 0.0 or close to it across the spectrum of manufacturers, such that individual design differences wouldn't actually matter? At that point, the only things that would matter when buying a watch would be what it looked like, and what materials the outer shell was made of. It would be the quartz revolution all over again, only this time, it might be worse.

Of course, we just have to wait a few years before the Chinese start printing these movements....
