Russians never really went hard for omega.
They went hard for shit like zenith and ulysse nardin among others however, and these two firms in particular went in hard for them to the exclusion of all other markets. This lead to the hilarious situation when the russian economy fell into recession in 2008 where all of a sudden these makers' only market wasn't buying their watches and so zenith and UN floundered around for a decade trying to peddle the most fugly shit imaginable to everyone else on earth who just weren't biting.
I don't know what UN's deal is now but at least zenith barely managed to crawl back from catering solely to the tasteless russian market of the early 2000's.
