Skelatonization is the process of cutting away the dial and plate and decoratively engraving the plate and sometimes the parts. A watch with an open dial and no decorative engraving is NOT a skeleton, it's just an open faced watch.
That is what skeletonization means yes, it doesn't just mean an open dial watch. of course hamilton, oris etc have brought out open dial watches but they don't call them skeletons because of he lack of hand engraving, the lack of skeletonization.
