'Reasonable' isn't a word used in fashion. Even schoolkids get bullied for wearing cheap trainers.
High fashion (the stuff that charges those really ridiculous amounts) taps into fanatical behavior. They don't sell clothing, they sell an illusion of celebrity and exclusivity. As much as we'd like to think, humans generally aren't the logical, "reasonable" things we think we are. The reason there is so much money in high fashion is because companies know this. I'd go as far as to say that the people who make the most money for high fashion can't really afford it, but just like an addict, they have to have it and will find the means.
