But other than that, I agree with you, mostly. However, it's also the architects job that people like their sourroundings and that the building is functional. And that's were many fail. I'd rather adopt something tried and old that is generally liked and working, instead of doing some stupid "L'art pour l'art" exercise in wankery that everybody that has to use it will hate. Problem is just: you don't always know it beforehand if your building will be good or crap, no matter if you are going for some modern stuff which turns out to be a unusable nightmare, or if you go for something traditional which turns out to look like some kitschy McMansion.
