I will never understand where this meme comes from.

I pay $45 to have a swimming watch serviced every few years from Vacheron (with free priority overnight shipping both ways). Luxury watch brands have very reasonable service prices. They want you to send watches back to them for repair and maintenance.

Pseudo-luxury brands, on the other hand, DO charge a lot. For example, Rolex charges $800 to replace gaskets on a Submariner... AND you have to pay for shipping both ways if there's not an AD/service center near you.
