i just wrote something on art (lit.) as reflection of changing cultural landscapes for a class. whats interesting is looking at these dus (not the dozos but say the navajos or the first pic u posted) and then looking at contemporary national/cultural costume design. the navajo fits are rooted in centuries of very concentrated almost sequestered cultural history, art, and symbology but its nuthin compared 2 the superabundance of influence that a young designer faces today

u get a lot of that "originality is dead" rhetoric out of it but i dont kno how i feel about that. recombinant offspring is just the shuffling of genes but its still an innovation
