So a sweater or vest/light jacket will be warm enough for 95% of the time where I am. Rain is far more common than cold at any time of year. Imagine how lucky I felt seeing "Lightweight, waterproof, and breathable" emphasized on this Barbour Rokig jacket that fits like a glove. The real luck was the price, MSRP on release was $300. Getting it from Barbour would cost $210 now. I paid $30.
