Nah it could work either way, tucked in is probably harder to pull off but I think looks better IF you can.
Depends a bit on the fit of the shirt (I suggest fairly large) and pants too, its really just something you'd have to try both ways and decide which looks better on you.
Personally, I tuck hawaiian shirts with pants and untuck with shorts, but I just tuck most shirts into my pants. You could go half way and wear a tucked in undershirt with the hawaiian shirt open.
