Because people where I'm from has a lot of pride, and other than sometimes helped them find some better jobs, it's not like I can give them money or pay things for them, other than a few presents; that will break the friendship.
My best friend became an accountant, so he will always be someone's employee. Another of my best friends is a cartoonist for advertising and comics, something that doesn't pay very well. Other is a teacher, etc...
