I was in a similar position and went with the Mystery Ranch Urban Assault with the waxed cotton material.
Earth tone waxed cotton gives it a old school, not tactarded military aesthetic, but the design is modern enough that you don't look like a hipster who just discovered old European milsurp.
And yes, Filson has gone massively downhill.
