Speaking from a traditional perspective, my rule of thumb is: no no-button t-shirts.
Jeans were invented in 1800s or something so I'd consider them traditional.
They were clothing for the peasantry though, keep that in mind.

I personally like Uniqlo Selvedge. It's 100% cotton.
Then again, I only wear jeans in a very casual sense; they were invented for function over form and I treat them as such.
