And then towards the end, we have Tarkovsky training his camera on Bruegel's Hunters In the Snow for multiple minutes, examining every detail. A scene that would be familiar to the Russian viewer, but totally incongruous on a space station.

What is the point of all this, fashion wise? I guess the point is that if we can imagine ourselves on a foreign planet, we would probably have a deep psychological need to tie ourselves to Earth. I think the Tarkovsky and his costume designers understood that, and attempted to humanize their vision of future clothing, to tie it to the past in some way. This is important to keep in mind when doing a lunar fit. Keep it out of the realm of cosplay. Tie it to traditional clothing and to function somehow. I think OP accomplished this pretty well tbh, and spacejew does it well too.
