I'm seriously considering LL Bean's Heritage Waxed Canvas Continental Rucksack. I think it would be nice with patches, but I'm curious to hear what you guys think.

As for the picture you linked, that pack does look nice with patches. But it is SO impractcal with how it is designed. It is literally just one big round hole in the middle, so no organization there.
