I don't hike so it's hard to say, but... I will say that I think Yuki cares about hiking insofar as it's a cool thing and mountaineering insofar as it sounds good. for actual hiking it might make more sense to look at something like, I don't know, Mystery Ranch

speaking strictly about its use for books and such, the construction feels good, it's solid, materials are pretty good. opening it is a three step process, and that seems a little odd to me, but you get faster at it eventually.

the one I have is not terribly big, but it does fit everything I need it to. It doesn't have any convenient way to store a water bottle though. that has been sort of a pain in the ass for me

overall I'd say it's a nice backpack and I like it but it's a fashion backpack and not much else. I'm 90% happy with it.

if you're looking at Epperson, have you also considered Kletterwerks? They're doing a similar sort of thing (awkward groping towards rugged all-american authenticity), similar price too. It's Dana Gleason's son resurrecting dad's old pack designs, slightly modified. I haven't heard from anyone who owns one so I don't know much about them. Context just got some Flips in new colorways like Olive and "Sandstone". I still wonder about them. I considered Kletterwerks when I was buying

and I also wonder some days about the Battenwear retro rucksack which I also would like to have

people tell me it's weird and wrong to own multiple backpacks so I just have the one
