So many reasons... They aren't portable in the same way, and the buttons aren't dedicated. They're prone to crashing and hardware conflicts, and getting blue screen in the middle of a set is just humiliating enough of an idea to keep me far away... I've seen it too often. There's also something that's just.. real about using hardware, you know? When you really have a sampler mapped out in your head and all the parameters have dedicated knobs, you just work differently. It feels more satisfying on a base creative level.
It's also a standardized format and a self contained unit. If A guy is really killing shit by hand on a sampler, you want to watch and see him work, and that's just not the same on a computer, even with a controller interface.
Each machine also has a very unique sound.
