What makes those associations meaningless in the first place? This line of thought is utterly baffling. I've never killed my son before, either. Am I allowed to post this image, despite not having the "mental associations" of having slain my progeny in a fit of paranoid rage? Am I allowed to post Dali without having had a dream about the Temptation of St. Andrew?

Then what is pretentious about hanging art in one's PRIVATE living space for the primary intention of enjoying it themselves? I mean, I agree with you that these kind of people exist, and I'd say they're pretentious for showing off that they appreciate art as though it's something to be proud of. But saying you can't hang art without producing it is nonsense.
