It has only been produced for a little more than 3 years, there's nothing to avoid, there weren't that many made in the first place.
There were many variants, picrel, not all are in there. Basically there are 'basic' 6206 movement variants and better 6218 ones. Towards the end they became a bit bulky and experimented with different bezels so you might see fluted or ribbed or faceted ones, they all look weird. There are other variants without the day at 6, those are not included in the pic.
Basically the ones to look for are
>OG 400 series movement one, J13080
>6206-8990 (unframed day window), might suffer from dial discoloration
>6218-8970
>6218-8971 (there is a linen dial variant, rare)
>6206-8040 (there is a black dial variant, rare)
>6206-8070

Here's a list of all the different models (with some missing) of the Weekdaters with the 6 o'clock day. They were only produced for 3 years, so there aren't really that many of them out there. They're not rare by any means, but not exactly common either. They eventually evolved into the 62GS, it was basically its predecessor.

Seiko used Promethium-147 up until the late 90's.
