The original 70's watch the PRX is based on is also powered by a quartz movement (an in-house Tissot 2031 batshit clown movement, to be specific), so if this is "muh purist" autism, then the auto is technically the bastard child in this instance. I like both, but I find quartz watches to be less of a pain in the ass for me personally. I own a lot of mechs, and they're just not worth the hassle to me so I never wear them anymore.

>i don't really understand buying a fake from Chyna, other than for the fun of finding out
NTA you're replying to, but this is the short version of why I bought one, as a curiosity for my autistic PRX-centred collection. I expected it to be shit and not worth adding to my rotation, but it's actually quite good quality for what it is and I'm going to wear it pretty often. Really pleasantly surprised me.
>i wouldn't feel comfortable bolstering their black market, especially since i already feel uncomfortable purchasing from their legitimate companies which are part of a greater slave economy
Completely understand this sentiment, but most Western companies exploit Chinese slave labour as well, so even when you're making an active effort to avoid it it's almost impossible to do so entirely. I'm actually pretty sure that the genuine PRX cases are manufactured in Hong Kong, it's marked inside the caseback I believe. See timestamp in this idiots video, you catch a glimpse of it before he puts the back onto the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irORaww8bc8&t=604s

As someone who owns a PRX as well, I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses. The Seastar has much nicer dial finishing IMO (mine was water damaged when I got it, so it's a bad example), but the PRX has a nicer quality of finishing on the case and bracelet. The Seastar is from the 70's though, so I suppose this is really a matter of preference of modern vs vintage.

One thing the Seastar absolutely mogs the PRX with is the clasp though - The PRX has a butterfly clasp with no true microadjustment outside of half-links, where the Seastar has a traditional clasp with a lot of room for microadjustment. Although I don't struggle getting a fit, why they changed this specific aspect of the watch is beyond me and it pisses me off.

Really cool that you've got your granddads watch Anon. Seastars are absolutely rock solid watches, it'll serve you well for years to come if you take good care of it. I've got a slight autistic obsession with the quartz ones from the 70's myself.

>That's awesome. Way cooler than a regular PRX even if its age is showing.
Thanks Anon, it has (what I think is) a really cool in-house Tissot 2031 movement with an unusual compression setting where you hold the crown in to set the time. I fixed another Tissot from the same era with the earlier version of this movement (the 2030) inside of it, and they're incredibly fun to work on as well. I own a 35mm ice blue PRX as well, and I'm honestly amazed how close they got it to the original one from the 70's. I might dump some pre and post-service pictures of the movement in a bit if anyone gives a shit.
>I'm wearing a random chink diver I forgot I had and I'm too lazy to take a photo. It's surprisingly comfortable.
Chinkshit watches are always solid in my experience, I own a Baltany myself and I really like it. Should post pics if you can muster up enough fucks to take one. What is it? Just a sterile one, or from one of the AliExpress brands?
