Arcade Fire's Will Butler on what David Bowie smelled like
>You walk into a room, and you're like, “Something's different. I'm in a different dimension. It smells so good in here!” [And then you realize] “Oh, David Bowie's here.”
It smelled like if an ancient pine forest had a massive forest fire -- but like, a month ago. So you get the new growth of the grass and the moisture, but still there's an undercurrent of pain. But also of smoke, so kind of like marshmallows...? It's powerful.
I have been trying to figure out what this dipshit was talking about since 2016. I think about it all the time. The burned wood smoke and marshmallows makes me think it's By the Fireplace.

I have no idea what year the interview happened and I've only seen it mentioned on frag boards, but people started talking about it in 2015, which was the year BtF was released. It doesn't really feel like a Bowie kind of a fragrance, but neither does Silver Mountain Water and some other Arcade Fire douche bag said he wore that once when they went to dinner. And famous people get sent free shit all the time. I can't really picture David fucking Bowie going to Sephora to pick up a Sephora-exclusive fragrance, but maybe they sent it to him and he decided to wear it that day.

I figure the chestnuts and guiac wood is where the forest part comes from, the Juniper and orange blossom are the green notes and the vanilla is the marshmallows. But I also don't really buy that this dude would be able to give such a weirdly accurate note breakdown based on being in a room with Bowie once, so it's probably coincidence
