Well what do you want it to do? the product you have is a wax, but if your hair is growing out then you may not want a wax.

Try layrite pomade and apply it to slightly damp hair. It gives it a relaxed look and it looks like its still damp even when it dries. But it won't flake like gel would. I've been using layrite and its really versatile. If you apply it to dry hair it also gives it a slightly matte look, but with a bit of shine. Pomade may be used by the macklemore-cut-with-beard-and-bacon users, but honestly there's a reason its used by a lot of people. Just use it in different ways and experiment

I also use Gatsby wax, but thats mostly because I'm half asian and my hair has asian texturing to it. If your hairstylist texturizes your hair when he/she cuts it, a good gatsby wax can make it look really nice (it's worth a shot if you're Caucasian too). Pic related
