AJ1s have an ultra thin forefoot with zero rigidity. Nike was not a fan if the 1, and Nike knew they had a problem after he broke his foot. The made him custom pairs that featured the midsole/outsole of the Dunk and when that wasn't enough, they dropped the EVA AJ2 misdole/outsole combo on the AJ1.

AJ1 was a last minute effort to sign Nike. It was originally intended to be a takedown version of the Dunk for Georgetown , but last minute Nike threw a wings logo on it and gave it to MJ
