Well, it's mainly because drug lords are originally poor people who get into that world for easy and lots of money. With it comes that because of the lack of education and culture they automatically think that expensive = good and clothes are a way of showing power so it has backfired even harder because people who are not even related to the drug world and have the money buy those shitty clothes to appear as they do and listen to the same shitty music too. That's what happens when someone who isn't used to tasteful things gets a shit load of money.

I live in mexico, so I know it first hand as well as I also used to live in Sinaloa which is where El Chapo is from. I remember some time ago the rich would see as low brow all those clothes and music but now you can see bus drivers and people in sports cars listening the same music.

So, there you go. That's the reason why (at least here in Mexico)
