you are retarded. prep is exclusive to the US because it is the name of a style of dressing that originated here. yes, they borrow items from the countries their families emigrated from, but in those countries these items of clothing are not considered prep. it only becomes prep once it enters the clothing system as it came to be defined here. if you told an irish fisherman he was prep because he was wearing a cable knit sweater he would think you were retarded, and he'd be right. you may think that these boundaries are too strict, but that is literally the point of prep/ivy/trad. a strict set of rules about dressing, from which one deviates carefully and deliberately
