Certain special edition GS quartz models plus the Citizen Chronomaster line are even more tightly regulated to +-5 sec/yr. The 50 year service interval for the Seiko 9F movement is a misunderstanding, though. The movement is sealed so that the lubricants should theoretically last 50 years, but that's not the same thing as saying that it can go 50 years without servicing and still be perfectly fine. It's still a good idea to service it every several years and that is what Seiko recommends.

Yes Seiko is a pretty great value for the money and if you have no interest in mechanicals then quartz is perfectly fine. If you're not spending a whole bunch on a fancy decorated high end mechanical movement anyway then there's no reason why you should get a cheap mechanical over a cheap quartz. Quartz is more practical anyway. I have several Seikos and I like all of them, I have a few quartz ones too but they're vintage models.

Do it faggot, they're dirt cheap on ebay and even if they're beat to shit and have never been serviced they'll probably still run perfectly well because that's just what quartz does.
