Most people don't have a sense of style, so trends are really easy ways to look "good." I live in Brooklyn and see the same sort of shit all the time - that's just part of being in the youthful/cool cities.
You avoid falling into cliches by establishing what YOU like and don't like and not giving a fuck about how other people dress. If you don't wanna dress trendy, then avoid the trends ffs.
Part of the problem with WAYWT and MFA is that it's just a bunch of dudes with no real sense of themselves trying to copy other dudes with no real sense of themselves. It's an Ouroboros of shitty style, and if you spend time on there of course you're gonna get pissed.
