The different shoes for each season thing is also bs. Shoes are one of the garments that stay constant through each season. Exclude wearing boots in the summer and sandals in the winter etc.
chino shorts are nice and easy to pair with any top in an average persons wardrobe.
But there is some sense to diversifying your shoe collection. Try some nice entry levels like derbies or desert boots. Maybe a high top idk but it is nice to have different silhouettes and different colors available
To sum, sneakers are dandy as long as they don't look retarded. Also don't stress shit someone says just because they dress nice. Your tastes could clash and fashion is subjective
