What does /diy/ think of amarelles/sour cherries and it's products. It's tedious to make stuff out of it since you have to take the seeds out, at least if you want to eat the actual fruit. Had some recipes but I can't be arsed to post it today.

Not a native english speaker so I may be fucking wrong, but isn't cooking more about meals anyway? I'm thinking that this thread will more be about stuff like jam and shit.

I don't like sleeping up high like that. Otherwise, I'd just buy a regular loft bed from IKEA or whatever and build an enclosure around the bottom.

I'm pretty sure I have the ceiling height. We have vaulted ceilings. Also, I could make the bottom part shorter, if need be. Or the entire thing. It really doesn't matter. I'm under five feet tall, and I don't plan to be standing on my bed or on the top part either. :P Just sitting or sleeping.

Thanks for this! I'll definitely save it for later reference.

It's just an area where I would keep my school or other academic/smart crap. This would prevent me from having to take up floor space with a traditional desk, as I don't have a lot of it.. Could also double as my DIY area.

>>307160
I actually planned on having it be a top half, and a bottom half. I don't know for sure, but it looks like there is a seam where the two meet in the photo. When I started planning this, it didn't seem to me that it would be different than building any other loft bed, except that I would be doing a lot more finishing work, and have to make sure the top was sturdy enough to hold at least double my weight, maybe a little more. Was that an incorrect assumption? haha.

Haha, exactly! :)

Thanks! :) Yeah, I planned on putting it in a corner, and I know anchoring is a definite must.

ie, it wouldn't hold all the weight? Granted, I know nothing about any of this, but what if I built the bottom entirely solid, and used PVC or piping to make rails, or only built two walls on? I only weigh about 120, and all I would have up there would be a lightweight desk and chair, wall mounted lamp, and some misc. books and school supplies.

Is there a structural advantage using 2x4s vs 4x4s? Or is it just more cost effective?

Make a half and half mix of white vinegar and blue Dawn dish soap. Shake well, and apply liberally to the stains. Allow to sit for twelve hours. Rinse in cool water, but do not use any other kind of detergent or allow it to dry. Repeat the twelve hour sit, and then wash as normal, allowing to air dry. [Or use the "air fluff" setting on your dryer]. Stains should come out, and without hurting your clothes. I got acrylic paint and fountain pen ink out of clothes with that shit, haha.

I don't have access to a band saw of my own, but places around here like ACE Hardware or Lowe's or whatever will usually cut the wood for you for free if you buy a certain dollar's amount worth. They also offer to do it for a fee if you bring your own wood, or buy under that dollar amount, and it's usually reasonable. I've done that before to replace shelves on a bookcase that I didn't want to throw out.

I'm just unsure on pretty much this whole project, haha. But it would help me have more space in my room, and give me the study area I want without taking up floor/wall space, so I'm willing to save the money and do it. I have a drill and access to a Dremel, plus all the other normal tools [pliers, wire cutters, hammers, hand saws, bolt cutters, etc.] I inherited from my dad.

Hey /diy/. I don't really have any experience in carpentry, but I was wondering if ya'll could tell me whether or not the frame over the bed is buildable, and how difficult/costly it would be.

Coke will get rid of the rust, OP. :)
I've done this on all sorts of metal things, heirlooms, tools, etc. It won't hurt the patina, or anything else.

Ikeafag here. I think a barn door would be an awesome solution for this problem. Ikea carries the infamous and widely used PAX system. You can buy doors that run on a ceiling track [or a ceiling and floor track, if you do so wish]. The white doors have mostly opaque panels that you could install LED strips on the backside of and light them up. A pull down blackout shade [IKEA sells these too; so does Target, if I am not mistaken], would keep out any unwanted light without restricting movement of the door. It's sort of a grandiose solution, I suppose, but it's an awesome one. You can visit IKEAhackers website and see some of the cool shit they've done with plain PAX doors.

Why do you dumpster dive? (I'm not ragging on you, I'm considering doing it myself.)

How do you stand the smell?

Is there any 'optimum area' to dumpster dive(specific stores/store types)?

Fuck, I love these things. Are these a build your own kinda thing, or can you buy them somewhere? I have a very tiny room, and it would make it so much more awesome to have one of these setups. Directions/blueprints/links, anyone?

You need to seal the edges of the fabric with a clear drying glue. Elmers will work. Use a 3/4 glue, 1/4 water ratio. Mix, and apply to the raw edges with a paintbrush. Three coats should work.

Those screws do look pretty out of place, but with some decently weighted wire, you could turn them into trees. [http://www.cutoutandkeep(dot)net/projects/wire-tree ---> Use this tutorial as a reference on how to make roots/branches.]

Sew a tiny pillow for the thing, and make an itty bitty book to put in it. A tiny blanket would also be a great addition.

It could be a great gift. It just needs some imagination.
