I work as a pipe fitter for a ship building company. im usually working along side welders.. im often working in rooms that look like something out of a cheech and chong movie where i cant even see across the compartment or area im working.. id like to see more on health statistics because i have also been considering welding. my job needs welders badly and they dont seem to work nearly as hard as we do! For now i only stick weld tacks to hold the piping systems that im working on together. then the welders come after me and close everything up

i believe code the ohio plumbing code states that there must be an adjacent lavatory and a bunch of other craziness that keeps people from using them in residential areas.

i agree they would be extremely nice, though.

i would definetly recommend it, and if you have a little know-how on running a business, definetly go the self employed route as an LLC. you may want to start out working for a big company, to get training and liscensing and all that, though. self employment is the highest paying route for plumbing. its also the most work, and it depends greatly on your area and how hard you want to work.

100k per year isn't out of the question if you work hard enough and have a customer base. im actually only 20 and i make roughly 20k per year, but i get some very nice perks since its a family owned business. mom and dad will go on vacation for a week and leave me that weeks pay for looking after the house.

yes there is an anode rod that is attached to a plug in the top of the water heater. it really shouldnt need replaced though.i suggest Rheem water heaters. especially if they are gas. dont buy water heaters at lowes. those whirlpool heaters are terrible

yea i would complain to the local municipality. test the water and bring results. your tax dollars should yield better results than that.

>>359475
i dunno about brain damage, but it works great to clear sinuses!

>>359478
if you do it regularly i dont see any harm. and its almost free so why not. we run hot water when we clean drains to help aid the process so i imagine it would help

chlorine is removed by contact with air.

uv light will only kill bacteria, and with that much chlorine, you don't need that. make sure the aerators on your facets are mixing plenty of air in the water. you can let drinking water sit in the sun or use a brita filter or filter pitcher. reverse osmosis filters will give you the best results but they can be pricey to buy/ maintain, and they wont do your whole house. r/o can produce only several gallons of absolutely pure water per day. it may be worthwhile to petition your local government to lower the chlorine levels if it is unnecessary.

the most FP home plumbing installation...

i have some pictures somewhere but i cant seem to find them. i have seen drain pipes that are hung only at either end, and they stop up. actually, our local bmv has apartments above it, and the drains for those apartment were put in pretty bad. the drain actuall turns and goes straight up for about a foot.

>>359225
not really. with the exception for the time we had a customer ask us to spay bleach around to kill any mold and we sprayed it before we started working... in a crawlspace.

forgot to mention that the installation pictured here has 2 problems

one is the problem that the picture is trying to illustrate, that the dishwasher is draining to the wrong side of the trap.

but a dishwasher drain line should also run all the way to touch the bottom of the countertop, and then down to the sink drain. this prevents water from flowing backwards through the dishwasher drain, in the event of a clogged drain.

depends on a lot of things. outside walls can cause trouble. how far away from a water source/drain source. and the cabinetry. probably a ballpark 2-3 hours for me. but remember, i have a van full of parts that you dont, and its next to impossible to get everything on the first trip to lowe's

scale of 1-10? depends on the job. one day im trudging through sewer water or getting cigarette ashes in water from a trap dumped on me or digging a well up in freezing rain. some days im in a *spotless* mansion/house changing a water pipe.

again, the living conditions of some people would suprise you. we work for several hoarders. the tv show was suprisingly accurate. ive been in houses that didnt even have a pathway to walk. entire rooms, full of what i would refer to as trash, and the mentally stability of the people that live there relies on knowing that that trash is there, and not thrown away. i have a family member has some mental problems, and three large houses+a storage unit *full* of random shit she will never use. it really is tragic.

yea, see >>358945 he read my mind word for word.

>>358924
be prepared to deal with people. some of them can be rather eccentric. and you would be suprised at the living conditions of some people.

if you already have city water, they frown upon well drilling. and its pretty expensive no matter who frowns upon it. also, wells will vary GREATLY from one area to they next. at my house, there is clean drinking water 15 feet under your, well, feet. but iff you drill over 35-40 feet, you hit rusty water. but jut a few miles east, i have seen wells over 100 feet deep that cant get a decent supply. so know your area.

>>358971
ill consider anything if the price is right, but im very happy with repair work.
out of curiosity, what made you ask?

>>358972
i would really hope %0

>>359085
i avoid any chemicals in drains like the plague. they will eat away your pipes. and we hate cleaning drains after people have used these chemicals, because they are so potent, they will rust our drain cleaner after we clean a drain with that stuff in it.

the ONLY exception is copper sulfate. and copper sulfate will only work to kill tree roots. it clogs the roots from getting water, and they die. but it wont kill your tree. best if used before bedtime, when it can sit in the sewer overnight.

its a family business. my pappaw started it back in '64. he handed it to my dad, and me and my dad work together now. only 3 employees the business has ever had. i also went to a vocational school but that got a little questionable...

there were a total of ten juniors and seniors in the plumbing class and the instructor had a heart attack halfway through my first year. it was all downhill from there. we ended up in the hvac class my senior year.

>>358741
depends on what type of shower you have. i will try my hand at a text based flow chart because i'm bored. lol

do you have a single handle faucet? if yes continue, if no skip to greentext.

when you want to use the shower do you pull a little knob next to the facet handle or do you actuate some sort of mechanism on the tub spout?

mech. on tub spout-- replace tub spout

knob next to faucet handle-- call plumber

>two/three handle facet

>doe you twist a handle in the middle to activate shower or do you pull a lever on the spout?

>twist handle--if its a moen faucet call a plumber. those things are a b****. if its an old faucet with stems, try replacing the washer in the middle stem.

>pull lever on spout-- replace spout.

sorry if thats hard to follow. if you have any further questions, just ask

>>358746
get channellock brand channellocks and be careful removing them. if they are stubborn, dont just turn harder. you have to grab one spot and try a little, then grab another spot, try there, then again and again.... it will take a little patience but they will come out.... eventually

i have never used that.
silicone caulk is my favorite because it is rubber. upon using it, it will vulcanize and it will always be flexible, and never crack or crumble.

polyurathane is good for many things to, but i have never used it in plumbing. if my memory serves right it tends to harden...

>>358543
as a plumber.. keeping anything sanitary is always a loosing battle. i just wash my hands often.

>>358594
your house probably has a trunk and branch design for water supply. which means that there is a main line(a trunk) that runs across the house and has many smaller lines (branches) that go to individual faucets. the main line may be corroded or it may be the individual faucets. pic related.try the areators first. they are usually the simplest thing to try. then work your way back to the main line

on second though for mild hair clogs that aren't any farther than the trap, one of those cheesy wal-mart drain snakes may be handy.....

but in any cases, its past my bedtime. goodnight all.
