i scrape and paint these type ceilings all the time, it looks fine, almost like a knock down texture. i put up plastic so the stuff drops into the center trashcan as a i scrape.

asbestos was bad for people who worked around it all the time, one ceiling wont give you mesothelioma.

i started learning with a 12 volt battery charger, a framing square and a fishhook when i was a kid 30 years ago.

in 2005 i set out to build my tiny house. This pic was my inspiration. the rest was just my knowledge of building full size houses to set all the infrastructure together (electrical, plumbing etc.)

i didnt do plans, i just made up everything in my head as i went along.

i have 3 outbuildings, a 20x15 storage building, a 10x8 greenhouse, and an outdoor bar area that has my washer and dryer in it.
