Hi diynos just a quick question. I live in Canada. Victoria to be specific. I'm looking to buy some pots some phono jacks and a switch for HDMI... Or a sitter I suppose. I am building a central hub for my living room. I know basically how I'm going to do it however... I'm poorish and don't want to pay shipping 3 or 4 times.... Any Canadafags know of good places to get this stuff?

Btw I've googled and I know this results.... I just want personal experience..... Oh and there are no good electronic stores in my area .... That I know of anyways.

Pic semi related. Its a toy I need some of the components for.

So I have this misc parts bin I received from someone who didn't want it anymore. It is organized somewhat but overall is just a dusty mess. I honestly don't know what half the posts are,but I'm really interested to find out. I am just starting to learn about electronics... my question is how should I sort them? Google for ID but how do you guys organize your stuff? Just curious. Pic semi related...

TLDR how does diy organize their parts?

Ya I got that...lel. What about running it without a battery tho? Is it even doable? Or at least is restoring it's firmware possible without a battery in the device..... just if someone knows that is... Thanks for the stunningly speedy replies by the way

ya it does, but once it starts it goes to the "sad ipod thing" (pic related) I need to restore it, but it doesn't seem to like to be recognized by the pc. When I connect it to a wall wart it goes to sad ipod and when it connects to pc it says battery very low please wait ( this is with the battery removed now.... I realized that it is definitely bad as I couldn't close the case properly with how much it had puffed up ....)

Sup /diy/?
I have this old iPod video that's pretty fubar. Its main problem right now is that it's battery is probably dead (like dead dead) and its firmware is kinda screwy I think. to fix the programming im going to have to get power to the thing, so battery is priority number one.

I was wondering if there was a way of bypassing the battery altogether and just running the thing off a power supply... I dont know, maybe a wall wart or something I make... I googled around and couldn't seem to find anyone that's done this, and therefore was a little skeptical it could be done. So I figured I'd come over here and see if any kind anons have any insight on this. As a N00b to such things I am not sure if I'm just asking the wrong questions or what.

So ya, any help?

So my sink is leaking. It is leaking from where the plug's "female end" connects to the base of the sink. I was thinking plumbers putty would probably be a quick fix for this, but I wasn't sure what the proper one would be. I was hoping one of you might have some tips or something (any plumbers?)

Pic related : Its my sink. with the leaky part highlighted.....

Thanks in advance /diy/nosaurs

So this might be a dumb idea.... but is there any reason I can't make a screw terminal out of scrap plastic/metal and screws ? On that note, can I use wood instead of plastic? Or is this a really bad Idea that is likely to cause problems???? I'm needing the terminal to wire the grounds and inputs of a xbox 360 controller to a db25 connector.... I want to be able to easily test and reconfigure the pins if i need to and a screw terminal sounds like that I need.... I just don't have 10$ to buy one.... so ya..../diy/ can i diy a screw terminal out of wood or plastic ?

So my plan is to build a chipamp. I honestly don't know very much, but I've been researching and figure I shouldn't have too many problems..... :S

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences or advice they could give me and also hoping someone could let me know why the lm3886 chips seem to come in lead or lead free (nopb) varieties but there doesn't seem to be info on it......

So ya chipamps, any wisdom /diy/nosaurs?

if you have an exotic wood dealer near by try lignum vitae..... I've had amazing success with it and pipes.... just be sure your chisels are sharp since it behaves like steel and sanding it just dulls it

>> No.267700 [View]

my 2 cents would be to mix up some French Polish and buff it on if you can. you should be able to find a recipe. it's just linseed oil , wax and shellac but with a buffer it comes out like a mirror and no need for anything aerosol or with terrible fumes.
