My favorite is SolidWorks but it's difficult to learn how to use. My guess is, you can get a student version of AutoCAD. That's what I did before I got SW.

I'll probably end up studying up on crossovers and try to build my own. So as of right now, I have no idea what I would be doing

I'm from Raleigh, NC. I'll keep it in mind not to use pre-made crossover, but as far as the crossover goes I kinda have no idea what I would be doing.

I guess my question then is, can I get one for cheap? Or make one?

Most of the ones that I've seen are pretty expensive, and relatively large. I don't think they make them for laptops, or at least I haven't found any.

I have a Lenovo T430 by the way, if that helps.

If you want to be really innovative get a 15 hp mower engine and you'll be going like 70 mph. Forewarning though, go to a bikeshop and get ALL of the components replaced with high quality parts. I also suggest getting a good Mountain Bike Frame as they're usually the sturdiest. The last thing you want is the frame cracking on you while you're riding. If you go to a junkyard you could get small low horsepower engines, for cheap. Like $20. If you have the tools to fashion a mount, it should be easy enough. Also, go for disc brakes (probably mountain bike ones) as the regular brakes 1) wear out quickly and 2) won't be able to stop you quickly when you're going 40 mph +

It's a fun thing to do, but beware, it can be dangerous and I believe you may need a plate depending on where you are

Get a tackle box to separate your components (decent one for $15 at walmart) and then go to digikey and have a field day. You'll end up with a lot more things than you could get in that kit. Also, just get a shitty soldering iron from RadioShack. As long as you maintain it, it'll treat you well.

Holy shit man, those are beautiful. Where the hell did you find that? and how are you building them? Never done it before, but I've been really interested in it.

That sounds awesome man. What tools do you suggest using for cutting plywood/large slabs of wood?

And what wood do you think you're gonna use?

Hey /diy/ brothers. Does anyone know how to improve the microphone on a computer to record somebodies voice in a classroom setting?

Also, if there is a USB plugin mic (that's not very large) I could use that if it was good at recording sound within a radius as opposed to directional.

Also, PIC unrelated

Don't worry about punching "harder." Your form is the most important aspect of throwing a punch. I'd suggest starting out practicing jabs first because they're quicker than other punches and surprises the hell out of people setting you up for a good follow up. Once you practice the form you'll be able to punch "harder," or should I say, with more force regardless.

Also, a simple karate technique is to literally just punch trees. The bark toughens up your knuckles (microfractures that heal stronger than the original bone) and it also strengthens the *wrist muscles* REALLY IMPORTANT OP, work on wrist muscles and knuckles. Nothing hurts worse than breaking/spraining your wrist in the middle of a fight. If that happens, unless you're experienced, you lose.

Thanks for the advice. And honestly the only reason I was doing it was because I have a tendency to just go over the top, specifically with my audio equipment, so I'll probably end up doing it anyway. Even a small improvement is an improvement nonetheless.

And what temperature rating would you hazard a guess for the capacitors/resistors?

You're pretty butthurt. And I'm a crook? The design's for me. Not anyone else. ME. So go along and continue the butthurt parade. Shame on you for being on DIY

>>487585
They were never intended to be on the same spec sheet for the resistors. The stability refers to the parallel circuitry.
And I told you I don't care about the test, so stop trollin

No. Just no.

1) thermal noise on carbon comp is ridiculous
2) metal film is the way to go
3) a tolerance of 0.05% ensure better analog audio signal
4) I've found what I needed so you can go back to not being helpful elsewhere

>> No.487562 [View]

The reason I WANT 0.05% Tolerance Resistors is because they give EXTREME stability and they also prevent sound drift.

Also, I didn't ask any of you what your opinion was, just where to get them. If you give me some reasonable evidence as to why my Class A amp should use resistors with a greater tolerance than 0.05% then go ahead. But for the smoothest operating systems it's actually quite necessary, and in my mind, will yield better results.

I appreciate those that help, as opposed to those that ignorantly post.

I know these things are pretty hard to come by and that I'll have to pay a lot but I just thought maybe I was somehow looking in the wrong places.

And I don't judge myself by normal societal standards, it was just out of curiosity that I asked.

For those of you that claim IQ Tests are about bragging and looking smart, well they are for people that actually care about it. Simple curiosity does not equate to hinging my intelligence upon a number to try and brag.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

And I've gone to digikey and mouser but some of the parts I'm probably going to have to order from Reidon or another high quality, high focused manufacturer.

Also, if I recall correctly my score was 180, but I know that IQ tests are BS, especially at a young age. It was just an inquiry to which I've been told before and don't recall my score... I was 6 so I had no idea what the test was (also because they didn't tell me what I was doing it for)

But seriously, thanks. A lot of people are just self-conscious trolls that get on the internet to account for their inferiority complex so I appreciate a real answer that doesn't include a lot of butthurt

I'm sorry, but do you have tourettes? Because I'm not building garbage components so, sorry if you're butthurt that I actually care about quality electronic components because I don't want awful parallel circuits. I guess you're one of those guys that use capacitors in the signal path too.

And so what if I want to know. Why do you care? Go somewhere where you'll be appreciated, because it's clearly not here.

*weight > cold air intake
Sorry, weight is VERY important in a car such as yours, as opposed to cold air intake. But honestly what you should do is buy an engine, rebuild it, and put turbo's or something like that on it.

You can pretty easily find Honda B22's or B23's, or if you want some insane power, buy a junkyard 350, 383, or 440 hemi and expand the engine compartment.

I'll be honest, it's usually a ridiculously tight fit and you'll have trouble getting everything in there, but it pays off in the end my friend. Oh sweet speed.

>> No.487428 [View]

Bad idea OP, unless you have a real beast under the hood.

Also, don't use PVC because there is a possibility depending on the type that it will burn. Last thing you want is to have burning PVC in your intake. Remove the A/C altogether. Weight < cold air intake (in your circumstance anyway)

And supposing you did have a ridiculous engine under the hood, you would probably have to get one hand-made to your specifications. Possibly a rigid, high resistance plastic or cast aluminum.

Point is, don't mess with your car/use garbage parts because it can end up costing you an engine and in extreme cases, possibly your life.

Okay guys, since I haven't had any luck elsewhere I thought that I would ask you guys.

I was a foster care child in NY and had an IQ test at the age of 6. Since this is DIY I thought maybe you could instruct me as to where I could find those results because I've always been interested in what I scored on it.

As well, I'd like to start building my own amps for speakers so if the aforementioned topic wasn't okay, then my next question is, is there a place that I can find high quality resistors/capacitors (tolerances of 0.05% or less) for cheap? Thanks guys

>> No.487124 [View]

Just curious. I stumbled upon diy and now love it. So I've always gone the typical route and bought my speakers. I have a pair of JBL's gold series, old Infinity's (great speakers), Energy RC10's, old Paradigm Reference's Series and a pair of Jamos. Would building my own set be an improvement? I love diy projects and this would be really neat. Also, would/should I build my own crossover?

He guys, I plan on building a headphone amp and I'm having trouble finding resistors with a Tolerance of 0.05% or lower.

I'm on my phone right now but I'll post all of the resistors and capacitors I need when I get on my laptop. Thanks DIY brothers
