Well admittedly, it's not like I've had any real experience with it and it probably helps me, mentally at least, more than for most folk since I have really tiny hands. 6-1/2 glove size.

Good point. I know we've established a knife isn't very good for self defense but a multitool fits perfectly in that typically pretty useless mini pocket on the front right of the jeans and if nothing else, is quick pull out into the palm of the hand to reinforce the knuckles if one needs to throw a punch. Roll of coins works too. Plus- handy change!

By the way, to make sure that level you're buying is actually level: centre the bubble in the vial and draw a line then turn the level upside-down and repeat as close to the original line. If your level is true, they should be perfectly parallel.

I nobody's mentioned vise/vice and clamps yet. Don't know if you'll need a vise but you can never have enough clamps.

Seconding the flashlight. I can't remember what I got this from but I seem to recall that female cops' most battered piece of kit is usually their flashlight. I think it was a doc or local news piece, apparently they're seen as more approachable/easy to overpower so they have more problems with folks getting close.

Really can't give you a source on that so take it with a grain of salt but I use an led flashlight keychain and I can't count all the times the light alone helped, this thread is making me seriously consider adding one with heft to my EDC list.

What kind of price/quality range are you looking for?

>> No.46068 [View]

Try looking for local owned electronics stores. You could just google electronics store near [postal code, city]

Don't do a lot of electronics myself and always found the trip to a local place worth it since they know what they're talking about and can help me out.

Thanks, fucking saved. Might actually be something I could do for my mother so the guest room could double as a sewing room.

It's not the survival part I'm on about as much as the thievery. It seriously worries me that you'd rather steal when there's a better alternative because you feel like it. It's not like it's murder or anything, but it shows a lack of perspective and wisdom.

Please at least consider looking up your nearest shelter, making plans to get there, and setting aside what you need for transportation. Find guidance and mentorship down the line from people other than your parents. That's really all I got to say.

Wait you're going to test your survival skills by camping near a populated area and using petty thievery for food?

Do you realize you're being a fucking child about this?

>> No.45254 [View]

Look dude I can sympathize with having a hard time getting a job but seriously, bus to the city; a homeless shelter is way better than anything you'll make. Besides the food and utilities you'll also most likely be connected to services that can help you get on your feet and being really self sufficient.

I've no experience with grease but paste wax with wood and moovit or sewiing machine oil on metal has gotten me through fine. Just stay away from WD40 and 3-in-1 which don't leave an appreciable film.

Any reason why grease in particular?

It'd be cool for future reference but you don't have to, I'm mostly just curious. I live in a basement with too low a ceiling for a murphy actually. Hell, can't do loft bed unless I wanna feel like I'm sleeping in a coffin.

Those bristles are just spring steel wire. Bit hard to find, easier to find as sheet at metal suppliers (ask for off cuts or scraps).

Do it before any finishing and it won't matter but in my experience, woodburning leaves behind a very smooth surface. Any cheap soldering iron will do, probably set you back no more than a can of paint too.

Smoothest you can get wood is with a cabinet scraper. It'll take some practice and learning so you might want to pick up some scrap wood to practice on before you do the ouija board. You could use it to get acquainted with the iron too. If you don't want to go that route, sanding with a sanding block will be satisfactory.

When you're picking out the wood for the final product, try to find the slab with the smoothest surface already (I'm assuming you don't have your own plane). Maybe just look for an already finished block, preferably a hardwood. Can't say I know what to do about the varnishing though, I've only made stuff for the shop and personal use so I never gave a fuck about that. A two part polyurethane maybe?
