Stop trying to steal my name :(

>> No.22703 [View]

the most common things so far that people have been making threads about have been

1) dildos
2) beer
3) guitars
4) farming
5) sewing
6) blacksmithing and welding and etc
7) furniture and carpentry and etc

is there any other kind of thing that i've missed?

"do it yourself" only really makes sense when there's no reason for anyone else to care. but the entire point of a wiki is so that everyone can find information easily. this isn't just my personal file cabinet :V

Well, what are the most important properties for your ideal material to have? I'm guessing cheapness, strength, appearance, and weather resistance? Treated lumber is pretty much all of these things - are there any specific things you don't like about it, or is it just the desire to try something new?

The thing about an archive like that, though, is that it's going to be absolutely everything. A wiki would be nice because then a bunch of information could be compiled into a comprehensive article. And then we'd have somewhere to point people who asked the 'standard questions' - people are going to make 'hi guys how do i forge steel' threads every day and there's no sense in reposting all the information for that when you could just link them to the one wiki article

>> No.22490 [View]

You ~could~ make it from sheet metal but that'd be a shitload of work and a shitload of $$$ to make something that'd probably look hooptier than a regular doghouse anyway.

there are some FUCKIN NEAT-O composite materials if you're into that kind of thing, but composite board is usually just as porous as wood (so can still get moldy, stained etc). They're pretty expensive too.

There are some non-porous composites too, but I guess the fundamental question at the root of the problem is "why don't you want to use wood"? Once you've determined the specific reason(s) wood would suck, you can more easily select an alternative based on those criteria.

making a desk with no power tools pretty much entails the same processes as making one with power tools. the only difference is that it takes a lot more time and effort. just make any regular desk plan with hand saws and hand drills and screwdrivers vOv

if you absolutely must make a zero-content post, at least have the common decency not to bump the thread while doing so

Fuck yeah. I think a wiki would be a lot more helpful, though - of course awesome threads ought to be preserved in their entirety but there also should be a place where information can be sorted and compiled and added onto rather than just archived.

>>22270

there are so many more dildo threads than blacksmithing threads

thankfully the blacksmithing threads are all awesome but still
