So I'm gonna go ahead and order it, unless there's some reason it wouldn't work with that charger.

Not really cost effective or viable for me in terms of storage.

>disable stuff in BIOS
New to me. What in the BIOS would I disable for battery life? (Only used to tweaking desktops)

>mess around with OS side settings
Done that, but again, for certain things, not so viable. Need to get the most out of my processor.

Also, charger is:
In: 100-240v~1.5A
Out: 19.5v --- 3.3A
(if it matters)

Hey /diy/. Battery question here, I know you guys tend to know your stuff.

I'd love some help trying to get a replacement battery for my laptop that lasts longer, and actually understand what it all means/how it works.

Current battery:
11.1 volts
3500mAH
39wh
Rated for 3 hours max life, I get 2. Need it for school, fixed it myself, and need it to last longer.

I understand larger mAH should help, as would a higher wh. But I'm sure there's other considerations. I've found a few that say they're for the same model laptop. (vaio vpcee32fx) but have different specs. Wondering which one would work, work best, and why, if anyone can break it down for me.

Others I found:
11.1V, 5800mAh, 64Wh
10.8V, 6600mAh (doesn't list Wh)
11.1V (10.8V OK) 5200mAh (doesn't list Wh)

Again, some help in understanding would be awesome!

Do you guys even first aid?

Peroxide and alcohol should only be used in circumstances where the wound was in contact with something dogy, because it's going to slow the healing process by quite a bit.
Warm water and soap is the key for most things.

Right, but it seems like you're saying that if idling is bad, a cold engine under load is worse.
Unless I have my people mixed up here.

>But if you keep the battery charged, it shouldn't be that big a deal sitting for a little while.
If I ever get in my car it's got at least 30 minutes of running time. The battery is always charged. That being said, I rarely "warm up" my car, maybe a couple weeks out of the year, cause lul central Texas weather.

>If there's salt on the roads
So glad I don't have that problem.

>No, an engine idling at 1-2k rpm will not generate the amount of heat that running it under load (driving) at 3-5k rpm will, ever.
I never said it would.

>So how do you think an engine under /load/ will do when cold?
You would assume it wouldn't be good. Which side are you arguing here?

>They will /eventually/ evaporate, but for how long are those corrosive chemicals in contact with bare metal? That's the whole point.
Thank you. This is the answer I was looking for.

>No, an engine idling at 1-2k rpm will not generate the amount of heat that running it under load (driving) at 3-5k rpm will, ever.
I never said that, at all.
Go back and read my post.
I'm saying that you are going to run the car up to normal heal. You're not just going to idle it, then turn it off. It's going to be run.
So, once it's running, why wouldn't those deposits evaporate, if they do under normal conditions? (Since, you know, it will be reaching normal conditions)

>> No.560361 [View]

>>560279
>Cold engine
I understand that part.
But the engine is going to reach normal heat, you're not just going to let it idle then turn it off.
So I don't understand how they wouldn't evaporate. Like if you set out a glass of water on a cool morning that turned into a hot day, it'd still evaporate, vs setting one out when it's already hot.

> If it doesn't reach full operating temperature, then fuel deposits in the exhaust system/moisture in the intake system won't continue to evaporate after it's turned off.
Sorry if I read into that incorrectly, but doesn't a car that idles wind up at full operating temperature soon after? (As in, it idles, then someone runs in?)
So why wouldn't it evaporate?

Oh, I never speculated they could. I was just commenting that I don't really get it when people are awarded large sums of money past bills/lost pay (etc) for a little pain and no lasting damage. (If that is the situation, obviously I don't know the details)

Now see, I kind of get this, but it depends how far you take it.

Something like that happens, and sue for time missed from work, medical bills, etc, sure.
But shit happens. If you aren't permanently bothered by it (IE, more than a scar) I really don't see the point.

Maybe im skewed cause ive healed well from crush injuries. They cant reattach crushed and severed.

No, i jist dont like steel toes in certain situation.

>>557901

Yes, they cam weigh. But they range in size, some weigh barely more than a car.
And i never said tractor trailer, should have been more clear.

Very well.

In theory, a car running over your steel toes would be fine. I'm certainly not going to test this, but lets go with that. (And my basic idea, like I said earlier, is I don't trust them for shit, which is smart. They're a safety backup, not something to rely on)

But let's say your typical car, three thousand pounds or so, can run over your toes just fine. Awesome, go for it.

Now lets take that 10,000lb forklift. I'm not feeling it. Seems a little sketchy. Or a loaded truck/trailer at almost 30,0000 pounds. Sure, it's just one tire, but we're expecting quite a bit more now.
Move on to the seriously heavy machinery:
Backhoes, front end loaders, metal refuse boxes just full of shit. Gets a little hairy.

I'll stick with composite. Lighter anyway.

>>557657
>The misconception that extreme weights will cause the steel toe to crush and amputate the wearers toes is categorically false.
I've had crush injuries. I'd agree, I can see how in most cases you're done either way. To a point. Because broken and crushed bones can mend. But not if they are locked in steel or removed from the foot. And all quality of shoes are different.

Like I said, I'll stick to composite.

>Not wearing it is also a get out of workers comp claim for your employer.
Not at all.

I really don't understand why you guys jumped on this so hard. I do not feel comfortable with them, composite will handle my needs. And based off what's been said, by the time steel toes fail I'm screwed anyway, why bother?

Miss the heavy part?
Or the not be scared shitless? I currently have steel toes, but my next pair wont be.
Forklifts/loaded trailers/etc make short work of toes, id rather just have the crush injury.

Awesome, wasnt.sure if i could just hook them up to a battery.

What about wiring a string kf them together so setup doesnt take as long? I mean sure i could just use clear line to connect the leds, but maybe another way?

Also, for something like in the pic i posted or led strips people use on cars, could i power that with a small sized battery?

I'm jelly of people who can wear these and not be scared shitless, but I have heavy machinery around, and that's a good way to lose toes.
And I wouldn't trust steel toes to hold up to more than body weight.

Alright /diy/, I lurk but rarely post.

Basically, I'm trying to create art (IE: only kind of vandalism) as part of a social campaign.

One idea I'd really like to do involves the use of LEDs to make a message or a picture. (Or outline)
But, it would require "standalone" led+battery combos, in a relatively small size. Ideally, the ability to have all the lights working independently, powered by a small battery. I would also have uses for stringing a set of them together, but the power source would have to be small. The LEDs will be taped or glued (unless I can think of a better way) onto walls, signs, etc.

As far as powering them, what am I looking at? The smaller the better, and they won't be left up long enough for the life to matter as long as I can get a few hours out of it. And any general info on "how do I LED" would be appreciated.

As always, feel free to toss up some ideas.
