Hey guys, just looking to start a conversation with yall! Which one do you have and which model or brand do you think really packs a punch compared to the rest and why do you think so? Let's get the conversation going!

what are you using it for? simply mowing your own yard? how big of a yard? commercially? how many lawns are you mowing daily?

I picked up a used JD 1435 at auction for 3k. I mow my 3 acre lawn and an additional 2 at my hunting land. diesel. 72" deck. rides better than either a zero turn or traditional tractor.

when it comes to grass you can't really compare them, zero turns btfo lawn tractors all day every day. only real downside with zero turns is that you can't use them for other things like rollers, small wagons, snow blades etc

Walk behind with a sulky. Looks dangerous, but I can take any hill without worrying if the fucker will flip over on me. Also I can bail out in two steps rather than from a sitting position.
Brands:
SCAG (The best. If you don't believe me then take a look at literally any landscaping trailer that passes you.)
EXMARK
JD
Gravely
Ferris(they have unique suspension/work comfort tech integrated for the aging boomers)

Garbage brands:
Toro (With one exception, their chonk 30" push mow boi "Timemaster". Fucking love that thing. They make some okay zeroturns too)
Do they make Electric mowers? If so then put it on this list.
Ariens (for professional homeowners only)
Snapper(used to be good and used to make the best non tractor rider mower next to Honda. They still make decent zeroturns)
MTD (You are literally white trash boomer if you buy anything with this acronym on it, including cub cadets now)

Anything rides better than a zero turn or tractor because their heavy asf and you're on the mower deck which makes it more difficult to guide and get under those low hanging branches. Also they're worse at making straight lines because you can't manually leverage the machine straight and have to make the slightest turns using only the steering power the machine gives you.
The only thing I do hate about walk behinds is that they'll blister your hands good if you don't wear gloves or have big Italian sausage fingers.

>JD
I fucking love my gs30. Thing is built like a tank, way more robust than most lawnmower brands. Used to buy into the meme "lol expensive green parts!" until I actually had a JD and other to compare to. Now I understand why they're more expensive (Still. 80 dollars for one break band, JD? Give me a fucking break). Only SCAG and Exmark come close to the same quality.

I have a 18 year old Bolens 46" cut tractor with a twin cylinder engine that I got from an estate sale for $50
needed a new battery and inner tubes for the 2 from wheels

it's alright

My dad has a JD F725 with front, 3-blade deck and it's much nicer at manuevering efficiently than a typical front-engine, front-steer mower with middle deck.

He also has a Dixon Grizzly 60" which I haven't rode much, but is much faster and makes a smaller footprint. Better for manuevering and speedy mows, and drives by lever handles instead of steering wheel and pedals.

Any riding mower with front deck, rear engine, rear-steer is superior than those not. At least for mid-sized jobs. Heavy acrage, deep grass, obviously a large ass tractor with towed deck, any small jobs, or jobs with tight spots, like for a suburban house-sized lawn, it's nice to have a push mower too.

I like zero turn mowers for sure, rn I have a 60 inch gravely that's been strong for Idk like 5 years it's commercial, I also like Kubota and John deere but they're a bit expensive and definitely Dixie chopper

>> No.1832005

I use a lawn tractor to mow about an acre with. Main reason I got the lawn tractor was because I pull around trailers, aerator, thatcher, roller with it.
